To draw attention to the simplicity of using debit MasterCard for your everyday purchases we recruited everyone’s favorite eternal optimist Mr. Bill. In creating the spot we worked closely with Mr. Bill’s creator Walter Williams to bring to the signature lo-fi aesthetic to life.

MasterCard Simpsons

This was a “pinch me” opportunity. The script was approved by Matt Groening before going through the exact animation process the TV show goes through  including a surreal recording session with the voice of Homer Simpson himself, Dan Castellaneta.

This general awareness spot for MasterCard wasn’t created specifically for Super Bowl XXXVIII but that didn’t stop it from running on it and becoming a top ten spot (#6) according to espn.com.

To our target cash is king. A wad of bills equals status. Our objective was to create brand awareness and establish the MasterCard pre-paid reloadable debit card to be a better way to pay than cash. The effort, which consisted of TV, radio, online, and OOH, was a huge success.  Our AI, score which measures awareness and recall, was 9 (norm is 5) and web traffic increased by 47%.

There are 46 million Hispanics living in the US with the purchasing power of over $800 billion and growing. Our initiative was to engage the unbanked and underbanked Hispanics looking for a smarter way to manage their money.

Priceless Cities Campaign
